Please take this survey on how you access L&S Advising

The folks here at L&S Advising are working hard to improve how you get the help and information you need to thrive at Cal. So we can concentrate our efforts where they'd benefit you the most, we'd like to know which media you currently use - and which you'd prefer to use - to reach us. It's only two questions long, how hard is that?!

Your L&S Adviser: Torey Bookstein

Name: Torey Bookstein

Degree: Cal grad, class of '94; Masters from SF State, 2000.

Majors: Psychology and Practice of Art

Best part of my experience as a Cal student: My upper-division small seminar courses

Next best part: Studying abroad for a year

If I could give one piece of advice to a new Cal student, I'd say: You belong here. Make Cal your home and have a blast!

Motivation for why I do what I do: My Mom was a student when I was a kid, and advisers made a big difference for her

Favorite part of the job #1: making advising fun!

FPOTJ #2: introducing a student to something new, like study abroad or UC Berkeley in Washington, DC

Book I'm reading right now: "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros

Weirdest job I ever had: Flying Toaster singing telegram

Secret passion: singing in French and Spanish

Not-secret passion: bicycling

Final message: Welcome to Cal!

Make sure that your schedule includes some courses that are outside of your comfort zone! We HIGHLY recommend that you try a Letters & Science discovery course, or a first-year seminar, on a topic you've never heard of - these courses are some of the best we offer, taught by our best and most entertaining professors. Stretch your horizons!
