This is my second round on the Berkeley campus. Fifteen years ago I was a pre-law and pre-med advisor in an office just up the hill on Piedmont Ave. As a college adviser I come to L&S with a background in Tutoring and Disability Services from Dominican University in San Rafael. I have also served in several capacities working with students including admissions and student development. I was a religion major at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania and received a Master of Divinity degree from Boston University. As I look back on my years as a student, I realize that the issues and challenges which you face today are no different than they were for me. I changed my major three times in two years. I was a pre-law student and took biology and art history courses for enjoyment. I received one incomplete grade as a sophomore (which I have nightmares about to this day). I studied abroad in Paris and travelled throughout Europe on my own when I was 19. I took summer classes at Georgetown University in Washington DC and managed to get into graduate school with less than stellar grades. As Berkeley students you are bright, directed and eager to excel in whatever you choose. Working with you is exhilarating and sometimes exhausting but always a pleasure. After reading Kierkegaard, Cone, Tillich, Daly and Reuther. My advice is: "It ain't over till it's over." |
