I grew up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota near fabled Lake Wobegon and came to California in 1991, leaving the snow, frigid temperatures and mosquitos behind. As a first generation college student, I'm especially concerned about Cal students who are also among the first in their families to pursue higher education. The Finding Your Way program is a valuable tool to learn what being a college student is all about and how to make the most of your time here at Cal.

Personal interests
If you ever come to my office in 113 Campbell Hall, you will encounter my small tribute to Star Trek. I love science fiction, especially all the Star Treks, and am suffering withdrawal from the cancellation of "Enterprise" last year. Anyone know if another Star Trek movie is being made?

I am actively involved in political, religious and social justice issues on various levels. My goal is always to address the core reasons why something occurs and make a change, rather than deal with symptoms.

College is not about checking off the completion of requirements, or "getting rid" of them, but about the joy of learning. Choose courses in areas about which you want to learn and will enjoy.
