I love my work as an L&S adviser because it offers an ideal mix of helping students figure out what they what to get out of their education at Berkeley, giving them practical information and advice, giving them referrals to other people and offices on the campus, and providing them with emotional support when that is called for. I started working at L&S in 1988. I have a B.A. in English from Berkeley and an M.A. in Counseling from Sonoma State University. I have two children who are recent college grads. One of the many valuable things I've learned from them is what a wonderful opportunity the UC Education Abroad Program is. My son went to Chile and my daughter went to Ireland on EAP, and both of them loved their programs. I continue to have a strong interest in many of the things in which I got an academic foundation when I was an undergraduate at Berkeley, including literature, psychology, art history, movies, and many kinds of music. I also learned a lot as a Berkeley student—outside the classroom—about social justice movements and student activism, and I treasure that part of my undergraduate experience at Berkeley too. |
