Your L&S Adviser: Kathy Sarconi

Hi, I'm Kathy Sarconi. I've been an adviser here at Cal for about 16 years, first in the Graduate School of Journalism, then in Political Science, and now here in L&S. Being a college adviser has been very rewarding for me, as it allows me to use many different skills and talents and satisfies my need to feel that I've been helpful and have made a difference in the world.

Although I started my studies at UC Berkeley, I did the unthinkable and transferred to San Francisco State University at the end of my junior year in order to study broadcasting. My dreams of becoming a documentary filmmaker didn't pan out (too much insecurity and too little money), but I enjoyed the major, and when I win the lottery you can be sure I'll be picking up that camera again.

Other interests include environmentalism, animal rights, political activism, and psychology, and I am a certified hypnotherapist. What I've learned from the study and practice of hypnotherapy is that people are infinitely more powerful than they realize, and we all have everything we need to be and do whatever we want. I hope that that conviction shows through and enhances my ability to inspire, motivate, encourage, and connect with the students I work with.
